How Disco blocks discount codes on sale items
Disco can help prevent customers from using extra discount codes on products that are already on sale.
To turn this on, check the box called: Block discount codes on sale items
What this setting does
When this setting is enabled, customers cannot use regular discount codes if their cart contains a product that is currently on sale through Disco.
For example:
- You create a sale in Disco.
- A customer adds one of the sale products to their cart.
- The customer tries to enter a discount code at checkout.
- Shopify rejects the discount code activation.
This helps stop customers from stacking another discount on top of your Disco sale.
What customers will see
When a customer tries to apply a discount code, they will see a message explaining that discount codes cannot be used with sale items in the cart.
Discount codes are blocked for the whole cart
If a customer’s cart contains even one product with an active Disco sale, discount codes are blocked for that cart.
That means the customer cannot use a discount code, even if the cart also contains products that are not on sale.
What you see in Shopify Admin
When this setting is active, Shopify shows an automatic discount created by Disco: Sale price code blocker.
This is expected. Disco uses this automatic discount to help block discount codes while your sale is active. You should not deactivate this.
Important note about other discount apps
Some apps create discount codes that are set up as non-rejectable. These codes may still apply, even when Disco’s discount code blocking is turned on.
If you use another app that creates discount codes, test your checkout before launching your sale.
Make sure to test:
- Shopify discount codes
- Discount codes created by other apps
- Carts with only Disco sale items
- Carts with both sale items and full-price items
Can I unblock discount codes?
To allow discount codes again, either:
- Edit the Disco campaign and turn off Block discount codes on sale items, or
- End the Disco sale on the products in the cart.
